The Town of Stanton has adopted the 2018 International Codes (I‑Codes) to protect public health, safety, and property. These model codes, published by the International Code Council (ICC), set the minimum standards for how buildings are designed, constructed, remodeled, and maintained in Stanton.

International Plumbing Code (IPC) 2018
Plumbing systems and fixtures. -
International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) 2018
Natural gas and LP‑gas installations. -
International Fire Code (IFC) 2018
Fire prevention, protection systems, and life safety. -
International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) 2018
Energy efficiency for residential and commercial buildings. -
International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) 2018
Minimum standards for existing structures and premises. -
International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) 2018
– Public and residential pools, spas, and safety barriers. -
International Green Construction Code (IgCC) 2018
– Applicable when required by project scope or grant/agency conditions.
Electrical: Electrical work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) as adopted by the State of Tennessee. Where the NEC and the I‑Codes overlap, the more stringent requirement applies.

Effective Date:
Projects submitted after the effective adoption date are reviewed under the 2018 codes. -
Local Ordinances:
Stanton’s municipal ordinances and zoning regulations work together with the codes and may add local requirements. -
State Permits
Some projects require state review (e.g., TDEC, TDOT). Local approval does not replace state approvals. -
Conflicts:
When codes or ordinances conflict, the more restrictive provision typically governs.
