Inspections

The Building & Codes Department conducts inspections at key stages of construction to verify compliance with safety standards, adopted building codes, and approved plans. On this page you’ll find the most common inspection phases, how to schedule (and reschedule), and what our inspectors expect to see on site so your project stays safe, compliant, and on schedule.

Common Inspection Phases

Your permit or approved plans may specify additional inspections.

When in doubt, ask us before you pour or cover.

Footing/Foundation

Before concrete is poured, inspectors verify the depth, width, and reinforcement of the footing or foundation to meet code requirements.

Framing/Sheathing

Checks structural framing, sheathing, and connections to ensure the building’s framework meets design and safety standards.

Rough-In Inspections

Includes plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems before walls are closed. Ensures compliance with safety and installation codes.

Insulation/Energy

Verifies insulation type, R-values, and energy code compliance before drywall installation.

Final Inspection

Confirms all work is completed to code, safety measures are in place, and the project is ready for a Certificate of Occupancy.

Other Inspections

Slab prep, masonry, roofing, lath, stucco; fire sprinklers/alarms (commercial); and special inspections per engineered plans.
